VEC MEMBERS CHRISTMAS GET TOGETHER

Held at the Atwell-Wilson Motor Museum – Sunday 14th December, 2008

Our Members ‘Christmas Get-Together’ was a return visit the Atwell-Wilson Motor Museum at Carne in Wiltshire and like our previous outing the weather was not a all kind to us. In fact it was almost a repeat of what we encountered when Christina, our late Membership Secretary organised the same event at the venue in 2006.

Despite the extreme weather of the previous few days a number of members. Not as many as we would have liked, braved the elements to attend our last Club event for 2008.

We were welcomed to the venue by Robert and Hazel Atwell-Wilson, the founders of the Museum who still take an active part in the day to day running of the Museum and live on the premises.

The Atwell-Wilson Motor Museum really is a gem of a museum, with a large selection of unusual vehicles, including an Ex RAF AEC Fuel Bowser, which actually saw service refuelling the Lancaster’s which took part in the daring Dambuster Raid of World War II. Surviving into preservation as a Tanker at Bournemouth Airport in the ownership of the now gone, Dan Air.

Attending Members were again treated to free entry to the Museum with a personal guided tour of the exhibits including behind the scenes and storage area by Robert Atwell-Wilson, who was keen to show members the only two Volvo’s in the collection. A Volvo 264 and a 940, neither currently on display to the public.

Following a most enjoyable look at the Museum, Members retired to the Museum Café for a beautiful buffet lunch.
